Why we're building this

A short explanation of the idea, and the care we're taking in bringing it into the world.

The gap we noticed

Most support services are built around solving something — a diagnosis, a treatment plan, a piece of advice, a decision. Those services matter. But not everything someone is carrying needs to be solved. Sometimes it just needs to be said, out loud, to another person who is actually paying attention.

Friends and family often try to help by listening, but naturally slip into giving opinions, comparing to their own experience, or trying to cheer you up. That's not a flaw in them — it's just what people who care about you tend to do. The Listening Post is trying to offer something different: a person whose only role is to listen.

What "just listening" actually means

It means a listener won't tell you what they'd do in your shoes. It means they won't suggest you see someone else, unless you ask. It means they won't try to identify what's "really" going on with you. It means the conversation belongs entirely to you — what you bring up, how long you stay on it, and where you decide to leave it.

We think there's real value in that kind of undirected attention, separate from (and alongside) therapy, coaching, or medical care.

Our commitments

🤍

No advice, ever

Listeners are trained specifically not to offer opinions, suggestions, or solutions — even when asked directly.

🔒

Privacy first

What you share stays between you and your listener. We're designing our approach to data and records with that as the starting point.

🌱

Slow and careful

We're building this deliberately — testing with a small group, listening to feedback, and refining before opening more broadly.

What this is not

The Listening Post is not therapy, medical care, or crisis intervention, and listeners are not licensed clinicians. It's a complement to those things, not a replacement for them — and we'll be upfront about that at every step, including before, during, and after a session.
